Well it’s been a fun term packed full of great events… Time for a rest now before we’re all back in January!
We’ll be opening for Arsenal’s home matches on New Year’s Day and 4th January, so if you are around, head down for a drink!
Have a great break with your nearest and dearest, see you in 2014!
The Rocket student events team.
Fresher’s Fortnight is almost upon us…. are you ready??
Oh do we have some special treats in store for you!
The festivities kick off at The Rocket Complex on Monday 23rd September, and we have 2 weeks of free entertainment for all Freshers, until Friday 4th October.
From live music and club nights, to hypnotists and comedy, there is guaranteed to be something you will love… It’s a great time to get involved, make new friends, and best of all every event is free entry for you lucky Freshers, so you can make sure your money gets spent wisely (or at the bar!!).
Get your wristband at enrolment or at The Rocket Complex bar…
All you need to get in to the events for free is your Freshers Wristband. You can get this from the Rocket Complex staff who will be at enrolment all week, sorting out your metcards and giving you wristbands!!
Get fresh at the fairs…
Make sure to get down to the LMU Freshers Fairs. We have one at each campus and they are a great way to stock up on freebies as well as join societies, get to know your SU, and see what else is going on around campus and in London.
Stay in touch this #FreshersLMU….

See you soon…!
We can’t wait to see you, make sure to say hi to us on FB and twitaaar!
Happy Results Day!!
We just can’t believe that it’s already nearly September… just Notting Hill Carnival and Reading Festival left before we start thinking about studying again!!
Freshers planning is nearly complete… with parties, activities and fun opportunities for our London Met students to get stuck in, make new friends and see what uni life has to offer.
As I write this thousands of A level students are jumping happily in the air, results in hand, to the joy of local press photographers eager for a snap of our future students. Hope you get some good shots guys.
So very well done to all who got their grades. We’ll be seeing you soon, 23rd September is when Freshers starts!
For those who didn’t, there are loads of options. The uni might accept you anyway if the grades are close enough, so give them a ring. Otherwise there is the clearing system… clearing doesn’t need to be daunting, and it can make you realise there are other courses you’d love to do that maybe you didn’t consider before. I have mates who’s enviable careers started out on a decision they made in clearing. There are lots of Clearing Planners and online guides so get involved and get that place. LMU has some great clearing places on different courses, so make sure to give us a ring on 08000324441!
So for now it’s back to putting the finishing touches on Freshers Week. All the deets to be released soon… keep a keen eye as always on our

So it’s back to business now, and during January we will be planning all the wonderful events for you guys when teaching starts after exams.
From 7th January we are open for students, but on a reduced hours schedule of 12 – 6pm Monday to Friday.
This is mainly because you will be studying hard to get all your coursework and exams done!!! 🙂
We re-open properly on Friday 1st February when we will be hosting a welcome party for all our new students! More details to follow soon.
After this we will be hosting a full events program during term – movie nights, club nights, gigs and comedy to name but a few.
Good luck with your exams and coursework over the next few weeks and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

The Rocket Team
Monday 5th March – 8pm – Rocket Back Room Cinema
Join us once again for our cool ‘Back Room Cinema’, tonight showing a film with Mr.Swoonsville himself, Johnny Depp.
It’s free entry and free popcorn, which we start serving from 7pm, and the movie starts at 8pm sharp!
Adapted from the debut Hunter .S.Thomson novel, American journalist Paul Kemp takes on a freelance job in Puerto Rico for a local paper in the 50s, and finds it hard to adjust and balance himself between the polar opposites of the local and expat lifestyles, and has major issues with journalistic integrity vs poverty. We enjoyed the book (although not as mind-bending as “Fear and Loathing…” it’s a great view into the highs and lows of Thomson’s lifestyle and ‘career choices’!!) and couldn’t wait to see it with Johhny on the big screen.
Rotten Tomatoes have this to say:
“Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart). Sanderson is one of a growing number of American entrepreneurs who are determined to convert Puerto Rico into a capitalist paradise in service of the wealthy. When Kemp is recruited by Sanderson to write favorably about his latest unsavory scheme, the journalist is presented with a choice: to use his words for the corrupt businessmen’s financial benefit, or use them to take the bastards down.”
A pleasant return to form for Woody Allen courtesy of Wilson and Cotillard?
A young engaged couple are forced to confront the illusion that a life different from their own is better…. Time travel, Paris and Allen’s wit make for a unique romantic comedy.
Back Room Cinema is every Monday at The Rocket. We turn The Back Room into a pop-up cinema. Comfy seats, special deals at the bar, FREE entry and FREE popcorn! xx
