Toga & Tequila Flirt!

It’s the end of term and the sun has decided to shine upon us. It’s great to see all the smiley faces, the sunglasses out and Pimms on demand. We too have been busy planning ahead and getting our heads around what seems to have been a really short term after Xmas.

Nonetheless, tomorrow is Flirt! last week we had a quite, non-themed night so that everyone could rest their heads but tomorrow’s Flirt! is going to be exquisite.

Toga & Tequila Flirt! Dress code? Your bed sheets. Feel like a Greek emperor and party the night away with special offers on tequila shooters as well as tequila cocktails. Sounds fun? Hell yes, because it’s going to be a great one.

The night starts as usual at 21:00 and we will be open ’till late.

Back Room Cinema presents… The Rum Diary – 5th March

Monday 5th March – 8pm – Rocket Back Room Cinema

Join us once again for our cool ‘Back Room Cinema’, tonight showing a film with Mr.Swoonsville himself, Johnny Depp.

It’s free entry and free popcorn, which we start serving from 7pm, and the movie starts at 8pm sharp!

The Rum Diary - Movie Poster

Adapted from the debut Hunter .S.Thomson novel, American journalist Paul Kemp takes on a freelance job in Puerto Rico for a local paper in the 50s, and finds it hard to adjust and balance himself between the polar opposites of the local and expat lifestyles, and has major issues with journalistic integrity vs poverty. We enjoyed the book (although not as mind-bending as “Fear and Loathing…” it’s a great view into the highs and lows of Thomson’s lifestyle and ‘career choices’!!) and couldn’t wait to see it with Johhny on the big screen.

Rotten Tomatoes have this to say:

“Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart). Sanderson is one of a growing number of American entrepreneurs who are determined to convert Puerto Rico into a capitalist paradise in service of the wealthy. When Kemp is recruited by Sanderson to write favorably about his latest unsavory scheme, the journalist is presented with a choice: to use his words for the corrupt businessmen’s financial benefit, or use them to take the bastards down.”

See it on IMDB here and Rotten Tomatoes here.

Back Room Cinema Showing: We Need To Talk About Kevin Monday 27th Feb

Monday is going to be a great night. We will be showing one of Tilda Swinton’s career highlights. A thrilling and moving film We Need To Talk About Kevin is our indie tribute for all of you.

TimeOut said about it:  ‘We Need to Talk about Kevin’ is thought-provoking, confident and fearless. It’s experimental but never alienating and horrific in all the right ways. It’s great to have Ramsay back behind the camera after too long an absence. Bring on the next one‘ five stars.

A pleasant return to form for Woody Allen courtesy of Wilson and Cotillard?

DRIVE – showing in Back Room Cinema Monday 6th Feb

20120131-122608.jpg

So the man of the hour is actually the man of 2011 according to Shortlist! And it’s a fine coincidence that Drive is their film of 2011 too.

We didn’t need Shortlist to tell us this as we already knew it. That’s why it’s our LAUNCH NIGHT movie on 6th Feb at 8pm at Back Room Cinema (free entry & free popcorn too!!).

Come down and see Ryan get medieval on some nefarious types, in that ridiculously oh so cool Scorpion jacket. By the way Shortlist the scorpion should be your creature of the year too, if you must insist on deifying anything Gosling.

Can someone make me a Scorpion Jacket please? There must be someone in this uni with the skills to do that. If you can, email entertainment*at*londonmet.ac.uk

Cheers dears!
