Monday 5th March – 8pm – Rocket Back Room Cinema
Join us once again for our cool ‘Back Room Cinema’, tonight showing a film with Mr.Swoonsville himself, Johnny Depp.
It’s free entry and free popcorn, which we start serving from 7pm, and the movie starts at 8pm sharp!
Adapted from the debut Hunter .S.Thomson novel, American journalist Paul Kemp takes on a freelance job in Puerto Rico for a local paper in the 50s, and finds it hard to adjust and balance himself between the polar opposites of the local and expat lifestyles, and has major issues with journalistic integrity vs poverty. We enjoyed the book (although not as mind-bending as “Fear and Loathing…” it’s a great view into the highs and lows of Thomson’s lifestyle and ‘career choices’!!) and couldn’t wait to see it with Johhny on the big screen.
Rotten Tomatoes have this to say:
“Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart). Sanderson is one of a growing number of American entrepreneurs who are determined to convert Puerto Rico into a capitalist paradise in service of the wealthy. When Kemp is recruited by Sanderson to write favorably about his latest unsavory scheme, the journalist is presented with a choice: to use his words for the corrupt businessmen’s financial benefit, or use them to take the bastards down.”
We’ve got some great stuff going on over today and tomorrow for singletons and couples alike…
Tonight it’s Back Room Cinema special, with free popcorn and lovely romantic films.
6pm is Love Actually
8pm is Romeo & Juliet
Tomorrow is Valentine’s flirt special!
So the man of the hour is actually the man of 2011 according to Shortlist! And it’s a fine coincidence that Drive is their film of 2011 too.
We didn’t need Shortlist to tell us this as we already knew it. That’s why it’s our LAUNCH NIGHT movie on 6th Feb at 8pm at Back Room Cinema (free entry & free popcorn too!!).
Come down and see Ryan get medieval on some nefarious types, in that ridiculously oh so cool Scorpion jacket. By the way Shortlist the scorpion should be your creature of the year too, if you must insist on deifying anything Gosling.
Can someone make me a Scorpion Jacket please? There must be someone in this uni with the skills to do that. If you can, email entertainment*at*londonmet.ac.uk
